Heavy T.O. Festival Preview – Saturday

It’s been a wild ride getting to Canada’s biggest heavy metal festival. Heavy T.O. has suffered a few lamentable losses since the lineup was first announced. High on Fire was the first to have to give the fest a miss, due to Matt Pike’s stint in rehab (feel better Matt!). Randy Blythe‘s incarceration and subsequent release have also caused the festival some mild headaches, and Lamb of God, as well as tour-mates Dethklok had to sign off the bill as well. Nevertheless, Heavy T.O. has done an amazing job of finding replacement acts, and the festival promises to be a diverse offering of metal, with plenty for everyone. Here’s what festival goers can expect from Saturday!

Headlining Day 1, Slipknot promises to be a pretty intense cap to the day. My inner-child (roughly 14 years old, fat, and trapped in a ‘no-one understands me’ limbo) is particularly excited to see Marilyn Manson. Having spent my formative years being generally impressed with my generation’s shock rocker par excellence, I can honestly say that seeing the man himself live will be one of the highlights of the festival, even if I haven’t given him a listen since 1999.

In support of Marilyn Manson and Slipknot are an impressive selection of bands, including Gojira (awesome), Cancer Bats (awesome) and Trivium (of which I expect there are at least a few fans).

This is TINAS’ first outing at Heavy T.O., so we’ll have plenty to say over the weekend. Keep your eyes open for coverage. You can also enjoy my many poorly framed Twitpics by following me on the Twitterverse at @variantmule!
