Primal Rock Rebellion - Mikee Goodman and Adrian Smith

The self-titled debut album from Primal Rock Rebellion – a studio collaboration between Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith and former SikTh vocalist Mikee Goodman – is to be released on 27th February.

The seemingly unlikely partnership began a couple of years ago, when Smith was between tours with Maiden. The guitarist – who also played bass on the album – says that the project was a chance for him to experiment and explore new ideas:

“It was interesting doing this album with Mikee, not least because we have quite different influences. I’ve enjoyed having the freedom to work at a different pace – to experiment and to sharpen a fresh set of skills. Mikee is a unique talent, and his performance sets the whole thing apart. I was really pleased with the way it turned out. It has a really fresh feel to it.”

“I feel we have achieved something special,” adds Goodman. “Adrian is experimenting with so many heavy sounds. I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Session musicians who also contributed include Abi Fry of Bat For Lashes, plus original SikTh member Dan ‘Loord’ Foord on drums.

It’s not the first time Smith has been involved in a project outside Maiden. When the band went on hiatus in 1989, he released the “Silver And Gold” album, under the banner of Adrian Smith And Project. He subsequently quit the Irons the following year, going on to record two albums with Psycho Motel, before hooking up with Bruce Dickinson for the latter’s “Accident Of Birth” and “The Chemical Wedding” solo projects, before both men rejoined the band in 1999.

“Primal Rock Rebellion” will be released through Spinefarm Records.
