Download Festival kingpin Andy Copping has once again pulled a master-stroke out of the bag by announcing grunge rock behemoths Soundgarden for this year’s festival.
Joining the Seattle rockers are foul-mouthed comedy rockers Tenacious D, Scottish rock stalwarts Biffy Clyro, young British upstarts YouMeAtSix and the most controversial announcement of the list, electronic/dubstep duo Chase and Status.
The second announcement of the evening saw things take a heavier turn with the likes of Machine Head, Trivium, Lamb Of God, Devin Townsend Project, Anthrax, DevilDriver and August Burns Red revealed but there was also more than a little sense of lingering nostalgia with the announcement of veteran rockers Little Angels along with early nineties metal heads Ugly Kid Joe.
Black Sabbath, Metallica and The Prodigy had already been announced as main stage headliners for 2012, and with the latest announcements it is shaping up to be a monster of a festival.
