About Chris Ward

Becoming a devotee to the cause of metal during the mid-1980s when, at the tender age of 10, I saved up my pocket money and purchased Europe’s "The Final Countdown" album on vinyl, I have spent the last quarter of a century trying to cram as much hard rock and metal into my cranium as is humanly possible.

My first reviews were first published in 2009 when I was recruited by Rock Midgets and it has been a non-stop festival of metal goodness ever since, having written for the likes of Scratch the Surface, Alternative Matter, OneMetal, Deviant Robot, Ghost Cult, Eat Sleep Live Film, Deviant Robot and Horror Society, to name but a few.

As well as being the UK Editor for ThisIsNotAScene, I am also a freelance movie reviewer and write my own blog, Ancient Slumber. A die-hard Iron Maiden fan, my other main musical favourites are Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Paradise Lost, Machine Head, classic Sepultura, Life of Agony, Europe, Thunder, Down, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Misfits, Motörhead, Cathedral, Napalm Death, Megadeth, Deicide, Type O Negative and am partial anything that falls under the banners of southern and occult rock. I also like stuff like James Brown, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Edmunds, Motown, '70's funk, 60's soul and '50's rock n' roll. I tend to shun modern pop culture as much as is possible and mention of Coldplay, The X Factor or reality television is liable to make me kick off - you have been warned.
